Conservatory Build Stages

Shown below are the various stages of a conservatory under construction. You will be able to see the transformation that the addition of a conservatory will make. Most people judge a conservatory on its design and style, however it is also important for it to be built on solid foundations. It is a fact that approximately 35% the cost of a conservatory will relate to the basework i.e. groundwork, foundations, dwarf wall, reinforced concrete oversight (floor area) etc. Therefore it is vital that your dream conservatory is built on a solid foundation.

You will note that a conservatory is substantially built on conventional foundations like any other building project or extension and in full compliance with recognised building practice. If you have questions about any stage of a conservatory project, please give us a call on 0870 7778715.

Phase 1: The Proposed Site
You will have probably decided where you wish your new conservatory to be sited, but if not don't worry because we can advise you on all the options.

Step 1.
The Proposed Site
Step 2.
Organising Waste Disposal
Step 1.
Preparing the Ground
Selecting the perfect site for you new conservatory. Space may be required for a skip during the groundwork stage. The ground is cleared as part of the preparation process.

Phase 2: Preparing and Preparation

In this phase the ground is measured up as per the conservaory design plans.

Step 4.
Marking the Outline.
Step 5.
Digging the Strip Footings
The outline of the dwarf walls are calculated and marked out as per plans. Construction work begins with the digging of the strip footings.
Phase 3: The Foundations
In this important stage of the build foundations are laid.

Step 6.
Digging the Footings
Step 7.
Pouring Concrete
Step 8.
Levelling Concrete
Step 9.
Bridge Existing Drainage Pipes
Footings are dug to a minimum depth of 450mm - this will vary depending on the ground conditions. Concrete is poured into the 'trench' to form the foundations. The concrete is floated to form a level surface area to build upon. Any drainage pipes will be
identified, protected and
'bridged' by concrete lintels.
Phase 4: The Cavity Wall
This is where the components of the cavity wall are created.

Step 10.
Cavity Wall Outer Leaf
Step 11.
Cavity Wall Inner leaf
Step 12.
Maintain Existing Air Bricks
The outer leaf of the cavity wall is built to just below outside ground level. The inner leaf of the cavity wall is built to inner floor level. Any existing air bricks can be
transferred through the base work.

Phase 5: The Insulated Floor Slab
This phase insures that the floor of your new conservatory is insulated and damp proof.

Step 13.
Laying Hardcore
Step 14.
Protective Membrane
Step 15.
Raising to Floor Level
Step 16.
Floating Concrete
Footings are dug to a minimum depth of 450mm - this will vary depending on the ground conditions. Concrete is poured into the 'trench' to form the foundations. The concrete is floated to form a level surface area to build upon. Any drainage pipes will be
identified, protected and
'bridged' by concrete lintels.

Phase 6: Base Completion/Flashing
In this phase the dwarf wall of the base is created to match the brickwork of your house and flashing is used to seal the conservatory from the elements where it comes into contact with the main building.

Step 17.
Installing Flashing
Step 18.
Matching Dwarf Wall
Step 19.
Insulating the Dwarf Wall
Cavity trays may be installed depending on the porosity of the house masonry. Otherwise a standard flashing is used. The remaining dwarf walls are built to match the existing brickwork or as requested by the homeowner. The dwarf walls are built to the height
agreed and should include insulation
in the cavity wall.

Phase 7: Installing the Side Frames
It is now that the window frames of the conservatory are added. It is in this phase that the build first starts to resemble a conservatory.

Step 20.
Install External Cill
Step 21.
Stiching Side Frames
Step 22.
Installing Eaves Beam
The PVCu external cill is fitted to the dwarf wall and the erection of the side frames begins. The side frames are 'stitched' together. On completion of the frames the
structural aluminium eaves beam is
fitted to the head of the frames.

Phase 8: Door and Roof Installation
Phase 8 see's the installation of the roof and doors and on completion, the final shape of your new conservatory.

Step 23.
Fitting the Door Frame
Step 24.
Installing the Roof Ridge
Step 25.
Guttering and Down Pipes
The door frame is fitted to the side frames and dwarf walls. The drainage system will be fitted, including the guttering attached to the eaves beam and any down pipes. The ridge and starter bars are fixed
into place.

Phase 9: Completing the Roof/Side Glazing
Now the glass is added to your new conservatory to protect you and your family from the elements.

Step 26.
Glazing Bars Added
Step 27.
Roof Glass/Panels Added
Step 28.
Roof Vent Installed
Step 29.
Frame Glazing Added
All the glazing bars are fixed from the eaves beam to the ridge. The chosen glazing panels or sealed units are installed. If specified in the plans, a vent will be installed into the conservatory roof. The glazing is installed into the side frames.

Phase 10: The Last Few Jobs
After the conservatory structure is complete the final finishing touches can begin.

Step 30.
Glazing the Door
Step 31.
Sealing Frames
Step 32.
Intenal Cladding
The door is glazed. All the finishing touches are added to the conservatory, including the sealing of the side frames against the house wall. The PVC internal cladding are clipped
onto the eaves beam and ridge to
complete the internal trims.
